I find it hard to think of a more homely smell than that of bread baking in the oven. Recently, I was given a bread making lesson from a dear family friend of ours whose home made bread I can still remember tasting when I was very small. I had always assumed it was a difficult and involved process, but it isn’t at all. The biggest thing for me was, like home made pasta, there is a quality in home made bread that even the most expensive artisan breads can not obtain And while you do need to be around to wait for the dough to rise, the actual time spent making the bread is minimal.
